We are only weeks away for Forbidden Door, coming up on June 30th! I don't know about you, but I am pretty pumped about this PPV and the card that has been building. Here is the run down from this past week and my opinion on how everything turned out.
-The show starts off with one of my favorite Champs. Swerve Strickland and Price Nana came out to kick off Dynamite, thus setting up a promo about Forbidden Door. In the main event, it will be Swerve vs Will Osprey for the AEW Championship. However, the Young Bucks decided to come out and interrupt. It was then that the Bucks that announced that in Nashville, TN it will be Blood and Guts. Swerve was asked to be their 5th member. Things didn't go according to plan, and Swerve trash talked his way into an almost fight. The Acclaimed then came in for the save.
Christopher Daniels made the overall save and announced everyone needed to leave the ring besides Jack Perry because his match with Dustin Rhodes was up next. This match was to enter the TNT ladder match at Forbidden Door. Now, I while I LOVED the match, especially after Dustin's promo on Collision.. we knew the winner already.
-Winner: Jack Perry
I'm not all for squash matches, and this one was pretty bad. Rush had a match with a local talent.. in which set up an INSANE brawl with MJF. I'm not going to lie this feud for MJF and Rush is going to hit hard. After their major brawl around the arena it was announced that their match will be next Wednesday and will be commercial free. I have a feeling it's going to be a good one.
The trios match is next... after one of THE best promo segment I have ever seen. Mark Brisco is a national treasure, let's just be honest.
Mark Briscoe, Kyle O'Riley, and Orange Cassidy vs Kyle Fletcher, Roddy, and Takeshita
I thought this match was pretty good. This is a rare one where I love both teams, and couldn't decide which I was going for in the end. It was pretty fast paced and hard hitting. In the end, Kyle Fletcher got the pin fall on Mark and the match ended. However, the fight didn't stop there. The beat down continued and Willow's music hit, assuming she came to save the day. After a few moments, she did not come out... it was Kris Statlander that threw Willow out of the tunnel after a beat down.
The next match up was The Premier Athletes vs Samoa Joe and Hook
Can we just give them some titles already? I know, I know too soon but they are just so good together. I love the build up and the "teaching" that Joe is giving Hook. It comes natural and gives it a better outlook overall with the character. It's been building for a the last few weeks and Joe/Hook finally got their hands on the Premier Athletes.. the match was good and was an easy win for Joe/Hook.
Mercedes Moné vs Zeuxis were next up
I wasn't too sure about this match at first, only because Zeuix wasn't someone I am familiar with. Overall, it was a very good showcase. I am very glad it wasn't the feel of a squash match. It was a title shot at the TBS title and think it did both of the women good. I enjoyed it very much, and felt it set the tone for Forbidden Door. In the end Mercedes got the win!
Chris Jericho and the learning tree.
Just being honest, but I cannot stand this character overall. I won't lie, Chris can play some of the best and he does it just perfect. But this one.. just is annoying.
Daniel Garcia vs Nick Comoroto
While I am a huge fan of DG, this match rubbed me the wrong way. I understand the idea of a squash match, and AEW has been really good about keeping those limited. However.. this one was not necessary, and made Nick look like a b**ch. The match lasted no longer than 3 minutes it seemed.
Winner: Daniel Garcia
Will Ospreay vs Rey Fenix
This match was very well put together. I enjoyed it very much, and thought it added that Fenix really sold during this match. With Swerve being out there during all of this, it added to the hype of Forbidden Door and gave a sense of what was to come. I thought this match was very quick (speed, not length) and gave a certain sense of "wow" factor. I'd love to see them in the ring together again. Will hit a Swerve Stomp and Hidden Blade to take the win over Rey.
After the match, Swerve entered the ring and did not shake Will's hand. There was also some smack talk, and yelling. Swerve told Will he wasn't ready to hold both titles.. and Will snatched it away from Swerve, to put the title on his own shoulder. Things are for sure heating up, and I can't wait to see next Wednesdays Dynamite as we enter into Forbidden Door weekend.
